I imagine it works similarly in other film/animation-based art school programs. Frequently, when talking about graduates, someone would ask, "Wait, who was that?" and you'd get, "You know, they made [such-n-such] film," and that would suffice. Now that I'm in the industry people will often tell me about someone they work with and supplement their story with, "You know that short with the [noun] that [verb]s? That was them!"

We put so much of ourselves into our films. I wanted to show that by having everyone in my class reenact a fragment of their thesis. I called it The Visual Credits and we played it at the senior show last year. If you're friends with me on facebook you can watch the 3 minute clip-show in my videos, but for the sake of my classmates privacy I'm not sharing it here.

What I did want to share is a photo shoot I did with my two friends, Avner and Stevie after filming their segment for The Visual Credits. I will assume you have given your eyeballs the privilage of seeing their senior thesis, Defective Detective.

Well, here's the two behind it:

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gi0bU5hZjwU/TypCerEs43I/AAAAAAAAATo/s4rma4g51_Y/s1600/_MG_4688.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; In case you were wondering where that red light on Avner was coming from, if you look closely behind me...

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--VkoDLRogAI/TypCdS_D2II/AAAAAAAAATY/IdOKMur0uQc/s1600/_MG_4707.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; :}

It's hard for me refrain from getting sentimental and sharing more about these two. They were amongst my closest friends at Ringling. We were often classmates, and they were constantly setting the bar higher than I'd ever seen it before. We were first-hand witnesses to each others struggles and triumphs throughout college- both of which were frequent, substantial and numerous. When you wonder if someone understands you better than you understand yourself, that's when you know you've got a real friend. It's a rare thing for me, at least, and that's why I feel so privileged to know Avner and Stevie.

Old Photography Assignments

I took a two photography classes while I was at Ringling and I must say they had quite the impact on me. A majority of the lighting knowledge that I use at work I owe to getting away from the computer and going hands on with a camera (and maybe some strobe lights too).

I took some pictures that I'm pretty happy with as well, however, for whatever reason, they slipped through the cracks of this blog. So I decided to dig into the archives and share some of my old assignments.

My sophomore year, advertising and still life class:

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; We made it though!

It was really tough, 4 days before Push Pull was due I had just finished wrestling with all my renderman problems and my lighting was still crappy, the animation wasn't in spline yet and I knew I was going to have to invest a lot of time into concept over the weekend (at least 12 work hours). Luckily, things started to make sense when I found I could duplicate the shaders on my referenced objects and reapply them so they were in my lighting file and they wouldn't be overridden by upstream changes on my rig. That way I could bring my lighting and texturing up together without jumping around in files. I also got my feet wet with Nuke, which was the first time I really dug into composting a project. It turned out to really help my workflow- It allowed me to see it as a whole and decide what needed work both in lighting and texturing, but also in regards to animation (something became apparent that just weren't visible in a playblast and other things turn out to be not as big of a deal). Still a few things I'd like to do before adding it to the reel.

I should also mention this is the first time I've rendered Linearly and it really worked the way it should and allowed me to get much further along with my textures and light than I would have otherwise. <s>I'm presently working on a tutorial.</s>

Here's a 15 minute LWF How To for rendering Linearly and outputting to an 8-bit format.

Enough talk, we're going to have to go through all these deadlines one more time before the semester's up.

Push/Pull

Until next month...

September Dump - Click to Play

[Dec 2011 Edit: Removed Concept III work; Re-linked CA Projects]

Silhouette project - Click to Play
     My emotions: Cheerful -> Confused -> Gloomy

Waiting with an object - Click to Play

Push Pull Character Design - Click to embiggen
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 207px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_yyseprx0KcI/SrzhdBxdATI/AAAAAAAAABs/GGVNWr6NFmg/s320/PushPull_Character.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5385427143236583730" />

This year's been very fruitful, I feel like I've come a long way and grown a lot. Particularly in concept, while my drawings can still use work and my staging might not always be the best I know there's no way I could have managed to keep up with this last year- A 15 second animatic over the course of a month or so made me really consider if I wanted to be here at Ringling. Now I'm about to finish up a 45 second animatic in 2 weeks and I'm having a long of fun with it. It's very gratifying to put an idea in motion so other people can actually see what you're thinking- it's hard to describe, but it's what brought me to animation.

I am still struggling a lot with Drawing For Animation. It's very difficult for me to invest myself in something that isn't yielding very satisfying results. On the bright side, I think my Push Pull character is the first character I've ever created that I really like. I can't wait to get him in Maya and get some textures on him. So, I can't say I'm at a total loss with DFA. My hope is that I can get to the point that I draw without feeling embarrassed by my drawings. I don't want to be drawing just to get by DFA, concept and prepro, I want to enjoy it like I enjoy animatics and story and just about every aspect of computer animation.

LWF

I've tried understanding linear workflow before, but never seemed to get over the hump. I don't know if it's cause I'm excited or upset- or maybe it's just cause summer's quickly coming to an end :P

ps. coincidentally I used the same wood texture in this test as I used (incorrectly) for my floor in the previous post.

Sit Stand

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_LEhDCQJFu3w/SeDhEqW8zSI/AAAAAAAAARk/drR0LUary6U/s400/SitStandStill.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323502229758201122" />
a quick update for a not so quick project

Animatic (for your amusement)

***Final***

C&C welcome and appreciated

Sit Stand Ref

Getting ready for sit-stand first pass. When you're 6'10" you can get a lot of crazy stuff happening with your lanky limbs, but when you're self-conscious it's hard to go all out when you're shooting reference in a public place. I like to play my odds and shoot a crap load of reference. There's bound to be some good stuff here and there. Now I just need to find the time to really use it. I'm normally a very laid back, stress-free person but never in my life have I had more instances of being faced with the impossible, freaking out and then feeling totally hopeless and defeated. I'm not saying this so I can say, "but somehow I make it work," because I don't. I've let myself down so many times this semester, I almost think it's bad for my health. I am learning though. It's not just about the artistic difficulty. My personality and habits are being challenged. I've been a perfectionist my whole life, frequently taking a 0 on easy assignments because I was afraid of not doing an amazing job on them. I realize this semester, that I've got to distribute myself evenly to make it through this program. There's just no way to give any one class 100% (at least not at the speed I'm at right now). It's so hard and frustrating to have such a core trait that get's in the way. I know this and I think I'm slowly starting to understand, accept and work through it. At least that's what I'm banking on. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Enough rambling, he's my primitive Theater. I had really high expectations when I started this project. Then, a week before it was due, I spent too much time on my other classes and I realized I was really behind and figured there was no way to make it not suck. So even though I had bigger plans for it, I feel it was at least somewhat successful. hopefully I'll find some time this winter to clean it up for my portfolio. C&C welcome.

http://webspace.ringling.edu/~rshowalt/access/CG220/Prim_Rshowalt.mov

Ball Bounce

So, I just recently finished my first major Computer Animation project and the first real thing I've done in Maya. The technique itself worked out pretty well, although I found my use of image-based textures and displacement needs a bit of work (I usually favor procedural textures).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_LEhDCQJFu3w/SIoMoUeHVQI/AAAAAAAAAKs/oTy-xpzGynI/s400/outdoor.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5227004204346201346" />

While doing this I stumbled across something I thought was pretty neat. When starting the seamless-ness between different images- or in this case altered versions of itself- I generate a black and white image; The black is where it blends and white is where they're too different to blend. While I was painting away the different areas I started seeing shapes and faces and characters like you would with clouds. It seems like it might be a creative and unbiased way of designing characters. This was the original character I saw when working on the texture pictured above:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_LEhDCQJFu3w/SIoreNi03cI/AAAAAAAAAK0/4ceolQu5Zzs/s400/doodle03.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5227038115548683714" />

I haven't had too much time to play around with it but I did do a few more. These were from scraps of nuts, bolts, and washers.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_LEhDCQJFu3w/SIosE-yJVTI/AAAAAAAAAK8/opce702rLYg/s400/doodle02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5227038781601305906" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_LEhDCQJFu3w/SIosE8NciLI/AAAAAAAAALE/9wkpbc2wvnE/s400/doodle01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5227038780910504114" />
What's interesting is how much the principles of design and rudimentary elements come into play. If I were looking for warm, fuzzy characters I could create these abstract black and white images that were generated from warm fuzzy textures. Then as I search through these random blobs they tend to take on those characteristics. Same goes for sharper more aggressive characters. I really don't think my examples do this method much justice. It might be very good to help break someone away from their habits and create some very unique things, but that's just a theory.

Another theory is it's a lot like a Rorschach ink-blot test; the sort of mood or frame of mind you're in will determine the type or style of characters you might find. I haven't had the time to really explore this, but I thought I'd share anyways.

pre-summer dribble

been really busy and yet, there hasn't been much for me to share. type='text'>My winter break: now online

I'm long overdue for a blog entry, there's been lots of things I've wanted to share but until today there was nothing I had to share. So I've taken a break from homework to promote the 2009 Ford F150. Why? because I spent many hours over winter break creating a full-sized, horizon to horizon dirt environment for the launch site's exterior 360:

http://www.fordvehicles.com/2009f150/

It bums me out to see how compressed the images are. The irony is I was trying so hard to keep the displaced dirt from being affected by low-resolution artifacts, that I had to save the layered source file out into multiple parts because photoshop can't save files bigger than 2 GB. Oh well, it's probably not that noticeable if you didn't spend a lot of time perfecting things with the art director. It was a fun project, I've gotta admit.

p.s. it looks better on a non-blown-out macbook monitor.

The boat project

So after a month of work we finally got to racing our boats this past Sunday. I thought I'd take the time to reflect and share some pictures.

Our task was to create a boat which we could get in and race, using only a 4'x8' sheet of plywood, two 8' 2"x4"s, sixty feet of duct tape, and as much paint as needed. Like a lot of my projects for 3d design I incorporated the computer in my design. The added bonus for this particular project was that I could not only use the computer to calculate the volume (to find the buoyancy force) and surface area ( to keep it within the plywood limit), but I could also layout my cuts and get a sense of it's center of mass and balance. This allowed me to go many designs past my initial design and create a much more functional boat.

There is a down side to the digital preparation, that's the precision needed to create it's real world replica. Yes, I can pull the lengths, angles of pieces and angles of cuts off the computer, however, all the triangles required trig to correctly layout and measurements accurate to the 32nd of an inch. To make things more complicated, there are two additional measurement layers in this layout file. One for the angle of the corners and another for the angles at which to make the cuts. Green pieces are surfaces facing the inside of the boat, while red pieces are the outer faces. So when cutting these with the circular saw, if there was an angle to be cut it had to be cut with a green piece on the right and a red one on the left to assure the angles would assemble correctly.

Aside from precision another problem as you might have guessed, is that it's hard to expect group members to decipher such a system and to approach cuts in the same precise manner as one another. So, this is how I spent a vast majority of my thanksgiving break, and took much of the assembly on myself, not because they didn't want to help, but because it would have been difficult to pull them into a work flow I unintentionally created. Fortunately as the construction came to a close I could bring them more into it's assembly and completion so hopefully they can feel like it's as much their boat as it is mine, and I think they do.

We felt, because of it's primitive, triangular, digital look, it was appropriate for our boat to have a starfox themed paint job. After the primer had been added, our tests completed and minor touch ups and revisions made, we spent the night before the race finalizing our paint job.

On the day of the race we were still unclear about who would row. me at 205 lbs with a fairly strong and experienced row (I like renting row boats when I go fishing) or Tingting, who's roughly half my weight, has less rowing experience and strength but has considerably more space in the boat. Since we never had a chance to test the boat with the oars I took to the water a few minutes before our race to see if I'd have enough room next to my knees to row. It worked, and while there were minor hang ups during the race from the oars crowding me, we did well. We didn't win but our boat definitely proved to be a very steady and reliable design, which is a victory on it's own.

Throughout the creation of the boat I had talked about how much weight it could potentially hold and how it could easily hold both the girls in our group. So after the race we gave it a try and not only could they easily fit, but the weight distribution was even better than if there were only one person.

The boat project was a great conclusion to the semester. It's one of those things you see as being within reach, but would never actually do. So I'm glad we had an assignment to make us give it a try. As always it was great to see something I created in the computer come to life, to see that I'm still in touch with my math/science side., and to have worked with different people. I'm excited to use what I learned on this project to complete some simple wood furniture in the near future.

Up to Speed  (pt. 2)

So in my very first post I talked about how I got into 3d animation and how I got into Ringling. Due to a lack of new and concrete artistic developments, I thought I'd take this time to share a few of the projects I completed in the time between submitting my art school applications and the next fall.

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Futurama. However I rarely have a chance to make my love of photography public (go on, check out my facebook albums, indulge me, I spend a lot of time on that stuff). That and my love for technical experimentation lead me to this toy around with HDRI's (High Dynamic Range Imaging) and capturing an environment.

In this experiment I photographed a table in my room, then took a picture of a reflective sphere at 3 different exposures. This allowed me to create a panoramic HDRI. I then dusted off my bender model, redid his materials and threw him in a scene with the hdri panorama. Thus the lighting and reflections were practically identical. This was also the first time I really toyed with compositing on my own.

I can accept that I didn't make sophomore status, my tradition work needs a lot of work and even now I'm too embarrassed to share my more recent pieces. Still I must admit it's frustrating when I hear about some of the sophomore assignments and it dawns on me that they're doing things I'd done months, in some cases, years before and just for fun.

This piece was a promo I did for work one weekend. It was one of the only animations I've done for Stage 3 and (outside of the modeling the exterior of the tire) I'm lucky enough to say I handle all aspects of this piece. Taking a different approach to setting it up, I was also extremely happy with how fast it came together, this turned out to be a weekend job.

The next piece, a more obvious bouncing ball-type project, was an experiment I did with multi pass rendering while on the clock at Stage 3 (hence the stage 3 branding). The idea is to be more efficient by rendering out different layers such as the color , reflectivity, shadow and so on. The layers could then be comped in Combustion to make a lot of imediate tweaks(as you would in photoshop) as opposed to rendering, adjusting, re-rendering, re-adjusting, etc... Additionally the background is only rendered once and the motion blur can be added in post, instead of boosting render time.

Again a weekend project that came together surprisingly quick. I've got a few new comparable projects on my scope. Hopefully I can get them to come together as painless as those.

Finally, I'd aways been a goal of mine to create Hobbes in 3d. After toying around with fur for a potential tiger bid, I decided to modify it to fulfill that goal. Additionally, I took screen shots during the process, so I leave you with the modeling of Hobbes in 3ds max:

Toy Project

So here's the final model and animation I created of our toy cat for 3d design. My partner handled making the physical model and it's box... I'll see about getting a picture of that...

I rendered it out a a resolution the mac book would enjoy...

As you can see (assuming you saw earlier posts), I ended up remodeling the whole body to closer resemble the model my partner made. The texture was also made to mimic the way the physical model was painted.

Since I've been poly modeling for awhile I spent a good amount of time giving some sophomores advice on their penguins. I noticed pretty much all of the models (including the one in the example they had) had more geometry than what was needed. It's tough to really modify and improve a model, your own or another's, when it's so dense.

I thought I'd use this model as a way to provide some advice.

If it's a simple model, Keep it simple. Extra edges turns models blocky; when you want to move a feature or a side you'll have to move 40 verts at once and try to smooth them out afterwards when it's a feature that could have been created and controlled by 4 verts. The more verts, the less influence each one has. Of course it takes a lot of practice to start developing tricks and techniques but so much of it comes from the initial approach.
I stumbled across some thumbnails I did that got me started on this model. I just tried to create lines that flowed with the features and try to stitch it together with 4 sided polys. Of course, I changed things as I was working but generally I tried to keep it just as simple. You'll notice in this model there's a lot of areas where 3 or 5 quads meet at a point (so the edges form a 3 or 5 lined asterisk), I should mention, if you're making blend shapes and animating a face, avoid those unless it you know it's necessary. Generally, if those verts are moved in animation they don't provide natural looking deformations.

Just keep it simple.

...and with time you'll begin to love poly modeling. Then you can take it in mudbox and make it complicated.

3D Design - Catch Up

My partner and I presented our toy cat this morning for 3D Design. It turned out very well, I didn't do much outside of pitching the idea and modeling/animating the cat in 3d (my partner was really proactive). I'll see about getting my portion of the project online to share. Until then I thought I might share some of the earlier projects I completed for that class.

This is one of three designs I did for our line project. It's suppose to represent a word that describes ourselves. Can you guess this one? Disregard the phallic semblance (unfortunately my camera angle doesn't do much to diminish the initial impression)

The next project was our modular unit, just a compilation of simple shapes to create a visually appealing structure. I decided it'd be a good opportunity for me to toy around with Maya, primitive shapes and basic poly editing. I also learned to do basic uv unwrapping so I could determine a good was to layout the figure. You better believe it became quite meticulous when I started plotting the cut marks on the poster board I was using. Next time I'll scale them appropriately in photoshop and print up some stencils.

More recently we had a self-portrait due. It had to have something to do with our majors so I decided to simply paper mache a figure with some of the most influential movies, TV shows and comic strips that inspired me to become a Computer Animator.

The gesture itself was very important so I spent a lot of time on the general shape of the wire frame. I think it was my first time paper macheing since about second grade. To be honest I like the wire version better but the images had to be added to personalize it.

During the same 3 week time frame we also had to complete a life size gesture composed only of planes and edges. I'd thought about taking the Maya approach but fear of using the computer as an unnecessary crutch caused me to stray from the digital. It was still quite tedious and again, I think it would have been wise if I'd done it in Maya and printed up the scaled UVs. Oh well, I'm satisfied with the result.

It really doesn't seem like much work but man, were these projects time consuming. This class has definitely requested a majority of my attention this semester. Now we've got the infamous boat project to start thinking about...

bananna!

I'd been meaning to get into digital painting. I thought first I might talk about how I got started with 3d animation; A massive entry to make up for the years of no posts.

I've always been more technically oriented for an "artsy type"and because of my experiences with my C.A.D. classes upon graduating high school in 2004, I knew I wanted to do something with computers and 3D. I didn't know, however, if I would be able to make a career out of it. So I went to a Community College, worked part time, and started teaching myself 3D Studio Max in the time I had left over.

In attempting to create such things I really started to learn the interface and get comfortable with 3DS Max but more importantly I learned how to be very resourceful in finding and learning new and necessary functions/techniques.

In 2005, less than a year of teaching myself, I found a community college not far from my house that had courses in 3DS Max. It was here that I met the single most influential person to my 3D work, my professor, Dennis Summers; an eventual friend, co-worker, and mentor. The class was primarily review (I was already putting the final touches on My First Animation, which premiered at a local film fest), but this allowed me to think about the fundamentals of 3D, particularly rendering , as well as simplifying my approach.

(coincidently, these were rendered exactly 2 years ago)

For my final, I created my second animation, regarding a stapler's paper addiction (the animation, however, was embarrassingly amateur so I'll stick with just sharing a simple screen shot).That class is also where I learned poly modeling which seems baffling in hindsight, considering my first animation was already finished it.

Of course, this new technique, my fascination with 3d toon shaders, and my love of the television show, Futurama, had a strong influence on how I spent my winter break...

Unfortunately, that winter the 3d program at Schoolcraft College was suffering, Dennis was let go due to union policies and the advanced classes only had 6 students and barely ran. On the bright side, our new instructor, Randy Rockafellow, a CG freelancer and the former chair of a local chapter of Siggraph showed me some very useful tricks- he introduced me to mental ray, the advance ray tracing engine- and that was paramount.

Recognizing my enthusiasm for 3D, Randy dropped my name to a former client who was looking for 3d artists to further supplement his photography studio. Andre LaRoche enjoyed my portfolio, however, being so close to Detroit the 3d business revolves around the automotive industry, and I had little to show in that respect.

Luckily for me, he was generous enough to allow me access to his workstations and software to try to get acquainted with rendering for the auto industry. I taught myself to render paint, use the farms, and became familiar with the beauty of V-Ray. A month later the car catalogs started and I was officially an employee of Stage 3 Productions. At this time I ran into Dennis Summers once again and got to work along side him a great deal as he freelanced for Andre during the summer months,.

I learned more that summer that summer than I ever have in my entire life- without a doubt. Looking back on it, it's no surprise. Working 50 to 70 hours a week next to a 3d guru, rendering for commercial prints with intense deadlines for clients like Ford and Dodge... It was intense- a 3d boot camp, and I really grew.

Not only did I learn how to render photo realistic cars, work with half-gig scene files, or render for print. I found out what it was like to be in the industry, what it was like to work 19 hours strait, deal with art directors requests, or handle the stress of yours company's reputation, at times, resting on you and no one else. It was stressful but very rewarding. I was too busy working to even think about the money I was making, and it was then I realized I could make a living working in 3d. A life in which I was financially stable, but so satisfied with my career that money wasn't even a concern.

Were it not for my opportunity to work at Stage 3 I probably would have never thought about going to Ringling, and I definitely would not be able to justify, to myself, going severely in debt to do so.When hearing about my luck and my paycheck people often asked why I even wanted to go away to school.

Before Stage 3 I worked at Kroger for 6 years (the Michigan version of Publix). I worked with a few specialist, graphic artists for example, who had tons of on job experience but after time that wasn't enough and so here they were, working at Kroger, putting up with lousy customers, managers, and making even less than I was (Kroger's unionized and I had seniority). The 3D industry is growing so fast and changing so much, who knows where it'll be and what the expectations might be in a few years. Sure, even a degree is no guarantee but a lot can be said for having so much passion and faith in something that you're willing to go hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt because you're confident you'll be able to recover and come out on top.

There's a simpler version too. The auto industry feels so cold to me, I originally got into 3d because I love animation and I was good with computers. 3d animation seemed like the most practical way for one person to create a good looking animation. However, I lacked the foundation to be a good animator. If I ever want to be really good, I'd have to dive in head first and really challenge myself, like I did that first summer at Stage 3. Dennis, who also started the 3d program at CCS, recommended Ringling to me.

In 2006, after the summer workload died down, I focused on putting the quality and speed I'd picked up professionally into more personal work for my portfolio. I revisited my passion for Futurama and toon rendering, this time with the intention of making a production quality model, rig and animation.

At roughly the same time I'd begun work on a experiment to create realistic water. It quickly changed directions and became "The Allegory of August," what I consider to be my first truly original piece of 3d artwork.

And finally, the last major portfolio piece that I worked on before applying to both CalArts and Ringling is an idea that's been in the works for many years. As I mentioned before, I worked at Kroger for 6 years, and in that time I accumulated lots of stories, met lots of interesting people and never had a shortage of inspiration. While working, me and my friends would often pitch ideas for stories involving various characters around the store. Eventually we came to naming this cartoon grocery store Skooners. As a matter of fact, one of the first things I'd created in Max when I began teaching myself in the fall of 2004 was a prototype logo for Skooners.
A year and a half later I decided to take another stab at it in my advanced 3D class. Influenced by having recently completed Fry and picking up Mental Ray, this edition seems to be more of a technical experiment and was abandoned after the assignment had been turned in. At the time just before turning in my portfolio, winter of 2006 (less than a year after this bland edition) I decided to create a portfolio worthy Skooners with the skills I'd picked up while working at Stage 3.

So that covers my art story up to application time. You might be wondering if I've done anything outside of a computer monitor. I'd be lying if I said I'm here at Ringling studying Computer Animation because I love to draw. I'd taken some art classes senior year of high school as well as a few art and figure drawing classes at community college to try and beef up my portfolio. My traditional work, however, is something I'm currently working on a lot to develop. Subsequently, in talking about what brought my to Ringling my traditional work gets swept under the carpet. In future posts, however, I will mention and share some of my older 2d work as well as more current work, both 2d and 3d.
